The present owner and operator Philip Wilson created Solar Energy Products after a visit to Haiti in January 1980. There was one company back then selling imported galvanized solar hot water systems as a side business. With a background as a qualified building engineer with a keen interest in solar energy, My wife and two children migrated to Haiti. A year was spent learning Creole and experimenting with fiberglass to produce both storage tanks and panels. Finally a working solution was found using heat exchangers, copper tubing and glass. The late Mr. Albert Mangones renowned Haitian architect provided encouragement in the earlier years and bought the first system for his house at Habitation Leclaire.
During the mid 1980s there was major progress in the development of PV technology inverters and deep cycle batteries, in Haiti the blackouts started with the political unrest. Market conditions improved and the alternative energy business got going. Incorporated in Haiti since 1983. Solar Energy Products continued designing, manufacturing and installing fiberglass solar panels and tanks for domestic and commercial applications, at our first location on the airport road. The company was registered with the government from that time.
Solar Energy Products introduced ARCO PV panels, Trace Inverters, Sunfrost Refrigerators, Trojan deep cycle batteries and other related products into the market between 1986 -1989. Solar Energy Products promoted the use of solar energy to help the Haitian public achieve energy independence though seminars and participating in exhibitions. Our staff has attended many Solar Energy training seminars and energy fairs in the USA, to keep abreast of the current trends and new technology developments.
Today we are full service alternative energy business, able to undertake any sized project or joint venture. Our business has always been completely dedicated to solar and related energy work, and customer satisfaction.
